With static they are set to a fixed size from the beginning. With dynamic VMDK, your virtual disks take up only enough space to store what is currently in use. You may have better performance setting your VMDK files to static instead of dynamic.

The full install took about 30 minutes in our test. Once the install is finished, you will be presented with your Ubuntu login screen. VMware will continue installing Ubuntu even while the tools are downloading. Simply click Download and the tools will automatically download and install, though you may have to approve the UAC prompt. The window may show cryptic commands, but don’t worry, as you don’t have to do anything else to install Ubuntu.ĭuring the install, you may be prompted to download and install VMware tools for Linux.
